The production process

From time to time we get questions regarding our bags and how they are produced. Let us take you behind the scenes of our production process.

Each model has a different production line. Depending on the model, 10-15 people work on one bag. First the workers cut all the shapes we need for each model. In the video you can see Lee cutting the front & back panel shape for the Houston grocery bag with a puncher. Chen is cutting the front panel for the Marlow backpack while Zhang is cutting the shape for the mesh shoulder strap for the backpack.

Once all pieces are cut, the welding process can start. Instead of stitching all parts together, we melt them with heat. This way we can assure the bags are waterproof. In this phase the workers are welding different parts for different bags. For each bag a new metal mould is developed according to our design. As they are especially made for us, they are very costly. As you can see in the video Huang is welding the seams for the back padding. The reflective stripes are also welded on the side by Lin. Wang is welding the front to the side in one of the moulds.

Ready to ship-ship-ship

Once the bag is finished, they check if all seams are waterproof at the welded parts. When all bags are assembled & checked. The workers start labelling & packing them. When all goods are ready we book a container to ship the goods to belgium.

eco-friendly material

Our designer Julie picked an eco-friendly TPU which eliminates harmful and toxic chemicals unlike its cheaper equivalent PVC. This material is so safe it’s even used in biomedical applications and kids toys we consider to be rubber. It’s non-toxic, tasteless, degradable and will not pollute the environment.

We specifically used the 420D Nylon fabric, which is coated with TPU on both sides. Originally the fabric is grey. We’ve handpicked the pink, skyblue & khaki-grey colours and had the nylon die especially for us. This means you won’t find a bag in these colours anywhere else.

Before we start our production, we do multiple tests on our samples. The fabrics are tested for their tear resistance, strength, thickness, reaction to sunlight and welding. Our sample has to pass the carry weight and vibration test with 10 kg of goods inside before we start our production. After succeeding all tests, the fabrics are shipped to the factory.

the production process

Overall 250 workers are employed in the main factory which is mostly led by female entrepreneurs. Most of the workers have been with our producer over 15 years. All of them have to follow mandatory courses on environmental protection awareness management and factory greening treatment before joining the company. To keep them up to date on the latest developments they also follow courses on how to manage waste, conserve energy and reduce emissions.
